Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon's office has opened an investigation into Capital Title Co. less than a week after the company shut down operations.
Capital Title was placed in receivership Jan. 18 after auditors for First American Title Insurance Co. found Capital Title's escrow accounts running $6.5 million short.
Jim Gardner, a spokesman for Nixon, said the Capital Title matter had been assigned to a fraud unit in the attorney general's office. He declined to elaborate on the investigation.
